Ethelyn J. Burdick collection, 1944-1947.

The collection contains materials regarding Burdick's service in the United States (U.S.) Army Nurse Corps during World War II. It consists of official correspondence, official papers, and photographs. The official correspondence is a memorandum from the Adjutant General of the War Department regarding officers' commissions. The official papers contain certificates and separation forms, all of which concern Ethelyn's military training and service. The majority of the collection is photographs depicting Ethelyn, her co-workers, and patients from her ward. She and her peers are shown mostly in military uniforms; however there are a few photographs of them in civilian clothing.

2nd Lieutenant (2LT) Ethelyn J. Burdick was born on 18 January 1922 in Oneonta, New York, and was licensed as a registered nurse on 3 April 1944. She then served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, beginning active duty on 1 June 1945. Burdick trained at Tilton General Hospital at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and was then assigned to Rhoads General Hospital in Utica, New York. She was released from active duty on 11 September 1946.
